How It Works
One Follicle At A Time, For Good
A hair-fine probe is slid into the natural opening of the follicle, alongside the hair rather than through the skin. A small current is delivered at the root, the growth cells are destroyed, and the hair is lifted out with tweezers. That follicle does not grow another hair.
Laser finds hair by its pigment, which means gray, white, blonde and fine red hair are effectively invisible to it. Electrolysis does not care what color the hair is, because it is not looking for pigment at all. It is the reason electrolysis is the only hair removal method recognized as permanent rather than as permanent reduction.
The trade is speed. Each follicle is handled individually, so an area that a laser sweeps in ten minutes takes a series of longer sessions here. The result is that once an area is cleared, it is genuinely finished.

Electrolysis is booked in blocks of time rather than by area, because how long an area takes depends entirely on how dense the growth is. If you are not sure how much time to book, start with a consultation and we will estimate it properly.

15 Minutes
A single small spot. Stray chin hairs, a few on the upper lip, or tidying between longer appointments.

The usual starting session for one small facial area such as the chin, upper lip or between the brows.

Two small areas together, or one area with denser growth than a half hour comfortably covers.

A full face session, or a larger single area worked through methodically without rushing.

How Treatment Runs
Consultation
We look at the area, discuss what is driving the growth and estimate how much time a full clearance realistically takes.
Leave The Hair
Unlike laser, the hair needs to be visible. Do not shave for two or three days before your appointment, and stop tweezing entirely.
The Session
You lie back under a magnifying lamp while each follicle is treated in turn. No numbing is used, and most clients find it very manageable.
Regular Clearing
Appointments run weekly at first, then space further apart as the area thins, until it is finished.

What To Expect
Before Your Session
Let the hair grow for two to three days so it can be seen and gripped.
Stop tweezing, waxing and threading the area entirely.
Arrive with clean skin, no makeup or lotion on the area.
Drink water and eat beforehand. Hydrated skin treats more comfortably.
After Your Session
Redness and small raised spots settle within a few hours.
Keep the area clean and leave it alone. Do not pick at any scabbing.
No makeup on treated facial skin for 24 hours.
Avoid saunas, swimming pools and heavy exercise for 24 hours.
Electrolysis is a course, not a single appointment. Hair grows in cycles, so an area has to be worked through repeatedly before it is clear. How many sessions that takes depends on the size of the area, how dense the growth is and what is driving it. Your provider will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation rather than a number that sounds good.
Tell your provider about your health history. Certain conditions, medications and implanted electrical devices affect whether electrolysis is appropriate for you. Hormonally driven growth can continue producing new follicles over time, which is a separate matter from the ones already treated.
Which One Do I Need
Dark Hair? Start With Laser.
If your hair is dark and there is a lot of it, laser clears the bulk far faster and for less. The efficient plan for most people is a course of laser first, then electrolysis on whatever is left behind, which is usually the fine and light hairs the laser could never see. We will tell you which order suits you at consultation.

Before You Book
Is electrolysis really permanent?
Yes. It is the only hair removal method recognized as permanent rather than as permanent reduction. A follicle that has been properly treated does not grow another hair. What it cannot do is stop your body forming brand new follicles later, which is why hormonally driven growth sometimes needs occasional maintenance.
Why do I have to let the hair grow?
The opposite of laser. Your practitioner needs to see the hair to find the follicle opening and to remove the hair once the current has been applied. Two to three days of growth is enough.
How long until the area is clear?
It depends on size and density more than anything else. A few stray chin hairs can be finished in a handful of short visits. A full clearance of a dense area is a program of regular appointments over months. You will be given an honest estimate up front.
Does it hurt?
You feel a brief heat at each follicle. Most people find it very manageable, and it is easier on some areas than others. No numbing is used, and your practitioner will work at a pace that suits you.
Can it be used on gray or blonde hair?
Yes, and this is exactly where it is the right choice. Color is irrelevant to electrolysis, which is why it is the only option for gray, white, blonde and fine red hair that a laser cannot detect.
Will it scar?
Treated properly, no. The probe goes into the follicle opening, not through the skin. Following the aftercare and leaving any small scabs alone matters, which is why we go through it with you at your first visit.
