PRE-TREATMENT
-
No smoking.
-
No alcohol one week prior to treatment.
-
No tanning 4 weeks prior this includes self tanners, this procedure does not treat skin types V-VI or areas with a tan.
-
Do not use any retinol products (or products containing tretinoin) or exfoliants on the area to be treated for one week. Avoid Accutane (or isotretinoin products) for 6 months prior.
-
Let your Aesthetician know if you have a history of hyperpigmentation.
-
Photosensitizing medications including doxycycline and minocycline should be discontinued 3 days prior to appointment.
-
Anticipate a social "downtime" of 2-3 days before any redness, swelling, and sloughing of the sunspots has subsided.
-
Avoid irritant topical agents for 4 days before treatment (Benzoyl peroxide, AHAs, BHAs).
-
Avoid anticoagulants for 7-10 days prior to the treatment, if medically permitted. Ask your doctor.
-
Ensure that skin is clean, No make-up, lotion, etc...bare skin on appointment day.

Shave hair on the area being treated.

Anti HSV viral prophylaxis is recommended for patients with history of Herpes Simplex.
-
A week before your procedure stop taking: aspirin, ibuprofen, Excedrin, Motrin, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, flax oil, cod liver oil, fish oil, and all vitamins. Also avoid drinking caffeine and alcohol a few days before your treatment. If you must take pain medication, Tylenol is your best choice.

POST-TREATMENT
-
You may have a mild sunburn (burning) sensation following the treatment that is usually gone within a few hours.Skin redness is normal and may last a few days.

There may be a slight amount of swelling.
-
Crusting or blistering is uncommon and not serious. Pigmented areas may begin to flake after a few days.
-
Cold compresses may be useful for the first 24 hours.
-
Your skin will be fragile for 2-3 days. Use gentle cleansers, do not rub the skin, and avoid hot water during this time.

Do not use any retinoids, tretinoins, alpha or beta hydroxy products, vitamin C products, scrub, exfoliate, or have chemical peels performed on the areas treated for one week.

Avoid the sun. Sunblock should be used for 4 weeks following each treatment session.

Moisturizer may be applied after each treatment, we recommend Aquaphor.
-
Make-up may be applied the following day, if the skin is intact.
-
Avoid excessive heat or friction to the treated area (heavy exercise, hot tubs, saunas)
-
Sun spots and age spots will DARKEN with the treatments BEFORE they begin to respond and resolve.This is expected and a normal part of the process. Do NOT pick, scrub, or exfoliate these spots. Allow them to shed on their own.

Start or resume skin care regimen after about a week when your skin is fully healed.

TREATMENT SCHEDULE
-
The number of treatments is typically varied from 2-5 sessions every 4 weeks. Pigmented lesions usually require less sessions than vascular lesions.
